Colorado Driver License Requirements at-a-glance:
Minimum Age for Learner's Permit
Driver Education Instruction Permit--15 years IF student has completed and passed a driver education course; Driver Awareness Permit--15 years, 6 months; Minor Instruction Permit--16 years
Instruction Permit Holding Period
For a student under the age of 18 to take a driving test and obtain a driver license, he or she is required to hold thier instruction permit for at least 12 months.

Unsupervised driving rules
If you are under 18 and hold a minor driver's license, you may not drive with any non-family passenger under the age of 21 during the first six (6) months after you receive your minor drivers license. During the second six (6) months you may only carry no more than one (1) non-family passenger who's under 21. The exception to the passenger restrictions are if an adult who's at least 21 years old and has held a valid driver's license for at least one (1) year is riding in the car with you.
Passenger rules
You must have the person who signed your Affidavit of Liability (Form DR2460) seated next to you in the front passenger seat whenever you drive. No other passengers are permitted to ride with you. This law is strictly enforced in Colorado and failure to adhere to it may result in your driving privileges being taken away.
